Mapping Professional Open Youth Work

Strategic Partnership

POYWE is coordinating a Strategic Partnership in the framework of Erasmus+ that will map this specific field of youth work in various ways.

The overall aims of the Partnership are:

  • to create a common understanding and agreed key elements that professional open youth work share in Europe.
  • to establish a platform for debate, exchange of knowledge and best practice, inspiration and capacity building.
  • to raise awareness and knowledge about the field in Europe.
  • to foster a stronger European Network including more inter-sectoral cooperation.

The products of the Partnership will be:

  • A document giving a common definition of professional open youth work and it´s guiding principles.
  • An online platform for spreading knowledge about the field and opening discussion.
  • An E-Magazine featuring up-to-date debates, background information and best practice.
  • A Video Channel for inspiration and capacity building – featuring experts and youth workers from all over Europe.

At first result of the partnership is the summary of needs and wishes towards professional open youth work expressed by young users of it´s services and youth work students in discussion groups that the Partnership undertook in nine European Countries. The answers of the 144 young people/students that we talked to serve as one important reference point for the creation of a common understanding and principles.
